We brought back The Foundation Party on 7 October 2018 – a party like no other; confounding the traditional model of the charity gala, which sadly leads to more investments in opulence than the objects of charity. Combining the elegance of art nouveau with a sense of the monumental, we took over the gorgeous Atlas Bar for yet another memorable night.
Our first Foundation Party was an experiment – to launch a charity party with an anti-gala impulse. It turned out to be a glorious gathering of beautiful people and a conscious joining of souls seeking to do good.
This year, we raised funds for a few iconic projects. With your support, we will have the London Philharmonic Orchestra record the UTOPIA Symphony that Russian composer Martynov wrote to epitomise Singapore’s development journey. We will launch a 10-year project to commission new music by our local composers, effectively creating a canon of serious Singapore music. As part of our Face to Face project, we have already commissioned 7 portraits of Singapore’s Presidents by prominent Singapore artists. Funds raised will also receive dollar-for-dollar matching from the Government.
The Foundation also showcased four local acts on the floating stage – Charlie Lim, Alemay Fernandez, Nick Zavior and M1LDL1FE.
For the silent auction, we launched our Foundation app which enabled participants to start bidding before the party. Auction items included works by Sonny Liew, Lan Zhenghui and performances by Alemay Fernandez and Nick Zavior.
