Dawn Wong

About the Artist

Dawn Wong bridges pop, jazz, and Hakka music, collaborating with Taiwan’s San Geu Tai on their Golden Melody–nominated album Upstream.

For Singaporean vocalist Dawn Wong, music is a vessel for exploration – one she has captained from pop to jazz, and now on to her latest adventure in Hakka (dialect) music. Her single collaboration with Taiwanese Hakka band San Geu Tai can be found on their Golden Melody Awards-nominated album 《洄游Upstream》. The Jazz Association (Singapore) scholar and mother-of-2 also writes, produces, and performs ‘Jazz for Kids’ and other educational programmes to take young audiences on this journey too, with the hope of colouring their musical palettes and opening their eyes to the world around us.

She fronts contemporary Mandarin jazz band “Akehao”, the 1930s-style “Shanghai Jazz Club” and is a member of the Char Yong (Dabu) Association Hakka Choral Group. Dawn topped her class at LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore) and has taught as an adjunct tutor at her alma mater.

How We Helped

Dawn Wong joins the UTOPIA Reimagined Series (Chapter 3), an annual music commissioning programme of award-winning local musicians and artistes, to reimagine the Singapore-inspired UTOPIA Symphony in their own styles.
