About the Partnership

The Foundation’s partnership with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Singapore began with the planning of Beethoven im Garten 2020. The Foundation continues to foster the partnership in 2021 with ‘Ode to Joy – a musical gift from Germany’.

Embassy of Germany in Singapore arts partnerships

In times of the COVID pandemic, Institutional Partnerships – such as with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany – share in a combined vision and determination to bolster optimism and build cultural friendships across continents through music.

Singaporean conductor Kahchun Wong, the first Asian Chief Conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, leads the virtual performances. This project is an initiative by the Embassy implemented in partnership with The Foundation and media partner The Straits Times. Find out more about the projects below.

 

Beethoven Im Garten 2022

Beethoven im Garten 2022 returned to the Singapore Botanic Gardens in March 2022 following a hiatus due to Covid. The 3rd in the series of concerts to celebrate Singapore-German friendship, the open-air event welcomed the partnership of Foundation of the Arts and Social Enterprise as organiser, and Dresden Philharmonic, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Singapore Botanic Gardens as programme and venue partners. Conducted by Kahchun Wong, ten musicians from the Dresden Philharmonic and its affiliate the Kurt Masur Academy came together with 35 musicians from the YST Conservatory Orchestra to perform Beethoven’s 4th Symphony.

 

About ‘Ode to Joy – A Musical Gift from Germany’ 2021

‘Ode to Joy – a musical gift from Germany’ is an initiative by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Singapore. Singaporean conductor Kahchun Wong is poised to lead the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra for a full performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. The unprecedented year-end gift from Germany is meant to spread joy and hope before the new year starts. The concert will be live-streamed on the social media channels of media partner The Straits Times.

 

About Beethoven im Garten 2020

Beethoven im Garten concert was a ground-breaking musical celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday anniversary that premiered on The Straits Times Facebook and Youtube channels on International Friendship Day, 30th July 2020. The Straits Times is the official media partner.
